WRITE 100w
Your Life in 100 Words
Ready to write your own 100w story but are unsure how to start? I give online, zoom and in-person workshops, classes, coaching and consultation. Learn to plan, plot, write and polish your own personal or family stories. They matter. And, you can do it! Begin with a well-chosen story and let me guide you along my 100w path. Your legacy deserves to be preserved for loved ones today and tomorrow.
Plan
Chances are, you have already told many of your story ideas at informal gatherings of friends. What made your storytelling work at that time? Was there a surprise, an irony, a misunderstanding, or coincidence that drew a laugh or a sigh when you wrapped it up? If so, there was a universal emotion that connected you, as teller, to your friends, as listeners. Writers do the same with readers. Plan well and you can do it with your readers while preserving memories.
Plot
Every good story has a beginning, middle and end. Think of those three acts as falling dominoes that push the plot to the finish line. In 100-word stories there can be no lingering, extra characters or unnecessary detail. So, where does your story begin and how does it end? How trim can you make it and still say what you want to say and make a tagline impact? The better prepared you are to write, the more successful and fun it will be.
Write
While personal narratives and family stories are always the focus of memoir, writing styles and aims can vary widely. Pack a lifetime into 100 words or savor a fleeting minute. Whatever approach you choose, write in your true voice and learn to think like a reader for reasons of clarity, imagery and rhythm. Just as I learned to write 100w, you can too. A thoughtful, well-written 100-words is a jewel that might be forgotten and lost forever if not for the cutting, shaping and polishing we give it.
They say everyone has a story to tell. While it may be true, you cannot expect anyone else will tell yours for you. Nor can you expect those stories to be there for loved ones in the future.
